Offline Transcribe collects nothing. No personal data, no usage data, no diagnostics, no identifiers. There is no account to create and nothing to opt out of.

Your audio and your transcripts never leave your device. The speech recognition runs on the device itself, using the engine built into the operating system. There is no server involved, and no version of your recording exists anywhere but on your own device.

What happens to your recordings

When you record, the audio is turned into text on your device as you speak. When you open an audio or video file, it is read from where you chose it and transcribed the same way. In both cases the audio and the resulting text stay on the device, in the app's own storage, and are deleted when you delete a transcript or the app.

Nothing is uploaded, backed up to us, or shared with anyone. We have no servers and no way to receive your recordings even if we wanted to.

The one time the app uses the internet

To transcribe a language, the operating system needs that language's model on the device. Your device already includes the models for its own language; anything else is downloaded from Apple the first time you choose it, from within the app's Languages screen.

That download is the only network activity in the app. It is a request to Apple for a language model — it contains no audio, no text and nothing about you. Once a language is downloaded, transcription in that language works with the internet completely off, and you can verify that yourself by turning on Airplane Mode.

The microphone

The app asks for microphone access only so that it can hear what you are recording. It listens only while you are recording, and stops when you stop. The audio goes to the on-device speech engine and to the file saved on your device — nowhere else.

What is stored on your device

Your transcripts, their titles and the topics you tag them with.
The audio of the recordings you make in the app, so a transcript can be redone later without recording again.
Your own preferences, such as the language you last used.

All of it lives in the app's own storage and is removed when you delete the app.

Third parties

There are none. The app contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting service and no third-party tracking of any kind. It uses only the speech and language frameworks that come with the operating system.

Children

The app is safe for all ages. Since it collects no data at all, it collects no data from children either.

Purchases

The app is sold through the App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details, and Apple's own privacy policy applies to that transaction. One purchase covers Mac, iPhone and iPad.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date. Since the app collects nothing, any change would be about wording rather than practice.
